Tulbaghia violacea
Tulbaghia violacea
Tulbaghia violacea (society garlic) is a clump-forming perennial valued for its narrow grey-green, garlic-scented foliage and elegant umbels of pale purple, starry flowers appearing from late summer into autumn. Best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, it forms neat, long-flowering clumps ideal for sunny borders and containers in Irish gardens. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Eventual height and spread around 0.5m x 0.5m; provide winter protection in colder areas.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
