POLYGONATUM comm. giganteum

POLYGONATUM comm. giganteum

An elegant, tall Solomon’s seal for shaded gardens, forming clumps of arching stems with alternate, fresh green leaves and pendent, creamy-white tubular bells in late spring to early summer. Well suited to Irish conditions, it prefers partial to full shade and fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Fully hardy and reliable in woodland plantings and shaded borders, it typically reaches around 1–1.5m once established, pairing beautifully with ferns and hostas.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
