PHORMIUM Sundowner 40/50 3L

Phormium ‘Sundowner’ is an evergreen, clump-forming New Zealand flax prized for its bold, architectural foliage. The broad, arching, variegated leaves carry harmonious bands and margins in pink-red, cream and green, providing year-round structure and colour. Grow in full sun or light shade in fertile, well-drained soil; avoid waterlogging. Ideal as a focal point in contemporary borders and well-suited to coastal planting; it can also be grown in large containers. In Ireland, choose a sheltered site away from cold, drying winds and consider winter protection during severe cold. Remove old or damaged leaves to maintain a clean outline. Expect a substantial clump with an eventual height of around 2m or more.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
