Pennisetum alop. Hameln
Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ is a compact, deciduous fountain grass forming neat clumps of narrow green leaves, typically reaching about 60–90cm tall and wide. From late summer into autumn it produces abundant, softly arching, bottlebrush flower spikes that open silvery to pale brown and age to buff, bringing movement and texture to borders and containers. Grow in full sun and a moist but well‑drained, moderately fertile soil for the best flowering and shape.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
