Panicum virgatum Buffalo Green

Panicum virgatum Buffalo Green

Panicum virgatum ‘Buffalo Green’ is a clump-forming, deciduous ornamental switchgrass valued for its upright habit, fine green foliage, and airy flower panicles in late summer. Ideal for bringing movement and structure to sunny borders and prairie-style plantings, it grows best in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Leave the stems standing over winter for texture, then cut back to the base in late winter or early spring to make way for fresh growth. Fully hardy in Ireland with an average rate of growth.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
