Miscanthus sin. Red Chief

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Red Chief’ is a clump-forming, deciduous ornamental grass valued for its upright habit and long season of interest. Narrow green leaves make a neat fountain of foliage, topped in late summer and autumn by feathery plumes that open rich red before ageing to soft silvery tones for lasting winter structure. Best in full sun and moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil, it brings movement and strong architectural texture to mixed borders and naturalistic plantings. Leave the stems standing for winter interest, then cut back to just above ground level in late winter before new growth starts.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
