Miscanthus Red Chief

Miscanthus Red Chief

Miscanthus ‘Red Chief’ is a clump-forming, deciduous ornamental grass valued for late-season colour and strong structure. Narrow, arching green leaves make a graceful fountain, while in late summer to autumn it produces silky panicles that emerge deep red and age to warm pink-silver, holding well for winter texture if left standing. Best in full sun and moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil; avoid waterlogged ground. Ideal as an architectural accent in mixed borders and naturalistic plantings. Cut back old stems to the base in late winter before new growth starts.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
