Miscanthus Ferner Osten

Miscanthus Ferner Osten

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Ferner Osten’ is a clump-forming, deciduous ornamental grass valued for its graceful, arching habit and narrow green leaves, often with a fine pale midrib. In late summer to autumn it carries airy, reddish flower plumes that age to paler tones and hold well, giving structure through the colder months. Grow in full sun and a moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Leave the stems over winter for interest, then cut back to just above ground level in late winter before new growth appears; established clumps can be divided in spring. Excellent as an architectural feature bringing movement and texture to mixed borders in Irish gardens.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
