Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron' P19

Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron' P19

Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ (Japanese blood grass) is a compact, clump-forming deciduous grass valued for its narrow blades that develop rich red colouring through summer into autumn, creating a striking architectural accent in borders and courtyard plantings. Typically reaching about 50cm tall and wide, it performs best in full sun to light shade in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil; in late summer it may produce airy, silvery flower panicles. Ideal for mixed borders, beds, and containers where vivid foliage contrast is desired.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
