EUCALYPTUS GUNNII

EUCALYPTUS GUNNII

Eucalyptus gunnii, the cider gum, is a fast-growing evergreen tree valued for its smooth, peeling bark and striking juvenile foliage, which is naturally glaucous blue-grey and excellent for cutting. In Ireland, grow in full sun in a moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil that is neutral to acidic, avoiding shallow chalk. It can be coppiced or pollarded to keep the attractive juvenile leaves and manage size, or allowed to mature as a bold architectural specimen. Small white flowers may appear on established trees. Provide shelter from cold, drying winds while young.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
