ERYNGIUM Big Blue

ERYNGIUM Big Blue

Eryngium ‘Big Blue’ is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial grown for its intense steel-blue summer flowerheads. Strong, well-branched stems carry thistle-like cones surrounded by a spiky ruff of bracts above a basal rosette of spiny green leaves. It performs best in full sun and very well-drained, poorer soils, thriving in sandy or chalky ground and coping well with dry conditions. Ideal for sunny borders, gravel and coastal plantings in Ireland, it is fully hardy and highly attractive to bees and other pollinators; avoid heavy or waterlogged soil for best results.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
