Echium pininana Pink Fountain

Echium pininana Pink Fountain

Echium pininana ‘Pink Fountain’ is a dramatic, fast-growing, monocarpic biennial or short-lived perennial forming a large rosette of rough, lance-shaped green leaves before sending up a towering, architectural flower spike to around 3–4m in a mild, sheltered garden. In late spring to summer the spire is clothed in masses of small pink flowers that are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. Best in full sun and well-drained, light or moderately fertile soil; it appreciates a warm, sheltered position in regions with cool winters and often self-seeds in suitable conditions. Half-hardy; protect from frost in colder areas.
