Dicentra spectabilis
Dicentra spectabilis
Bleeding heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis, formerly Dicentra spectabilis) is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial for partial shade, prized for its arching sprays of heart-shaped, deep pink flowers with white inner petals in late spring, carried above fresh, finely divided green foliage. Ideal for shaded borders and classic cottage gardens and excellent for cutting, it prefers fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
