Aucuba Rozanne

Aucuba Rozanne

Aucuba Rozanne

A compact, slow-growing evergreen shrub valued for its deep green, glossy foliage and excellent tolerance of shade. Small, purplish flowers appear in spring; on female plants these may be followed by bright red berries. Ideal for adding year-round structure in lightly to fully shaded borders, underplanting beneath trees, or for low-maintenance screening in sheltered spots. Thrives in most well-drained soils (including clay and chalk) and is a reliable, low-care choice for Irish gardens; avoid waterlogged ground and cold, drying winds.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.

Position Position: Light shade to full shade; sheltered from cold winds
Growth Rate of Growth: Slow-growing, compact habit
Soil Soil: Any reasonably fertile, well-drained soil; tolerates clay or chalk; avoid waterlogging
Hardiness Hardiness: Hardy across Ireland (approx. to -15°C; RHS H5)
