BAY Standard 1/2 STEM 45/50 P 25
BAY CROWN ON 1/2 STEM 45/50 P 25
Laurus nobilis is the classic evergreen bay, prized for its aromatic leaves used in cooking and for its neat, formal look when clipped. This half-standard form carries a rounded crown above a clear stem, ideal for flanking doorways, patios and paths, or for smart container displays. Slow-growing and easy to shape, it thrives in sun or light shade in a sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil. In spring it may produce small, pale yellow-green flowers (with berries forming on female plants), but it is chiefly grown for its dense, glossy foliage. Light clipping in late spring or summer will keep the crown tight and well-defined.
This is a standard tree with a clear stem and a shaped crown above. The tree was grown up to this stem height and then pruned to stop the trunk growing taller. The clear stem will remain at the height you receive it at, with future growth coming from the top of the tree.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
