Acer shirasawanum Aureum
Acer shirasawanum Aureum
Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' is a slow-growing, bushy small tree or large shrub valued for its luminous yellow foliage. The rounded, 7–9 lobed leaves remain bright yellow through summer, and are complemented by small clusters of crimson-red flowers in spring. Best in partial shade and a sheltered spot to protect the delicate leaves from wind and scorch, it prefers moist but well-drained, acid to neutral soil. An RHS Award of Garden Merit plant, it makes an outstanding specimen, maturing to about 4m high and wide over time.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
