Acer palmatum ‘Metamorphosa’ is a Japanese maple prized for its ever-changing foliage through the seasons. Leaves emerge with striking variegation and warm tints in spring, settle to attractive variegated tones in summer, and develop rich autumn colour before falling. A slow-growing, graceful small tree for containers or borders, it does best in a sheltered spot with protection from cold, drying winds, in moisture-retentive, well-drained, humus-rich soil that is neutral to acidic.
