Malus d. Elstar C35 double U-form

Malus domestica 'Elstar' is a much-loved dessert apple noted for its crisp, juicy texture and balanced sweet-sharp flavour. Trained here as a double U-form, it provides a compact, elegant framework that’s ideal for walls, fences or narrow beds while delivering excellent cropping potential. Spring blossom is white with soft pink tints, attracting bees and other pollinators, with fruit typically harvested in early autumn. Plant in full sun in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Fully hardy. For best results, tie in new shoots to maintain the double U shape and prune annually to encourage spur formation and reliable yields. ‘Elstar’ is self-sterile and in RHS pollination group 3, so it will require a compatible apple nearby for good pollination.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
