Magnolia stellata

Magnolia stellata

Magnolia stellata is a compact, slow-growing, deciduous small tree prized for its many-petalled, star-shaped white flowers that open on bare branches in early spring. Best grown in full sun or light shade in a sheltered spot, it prefers a moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil that is neutral to acidic; avoid chalky soils. Minimal pruning is needed beyond removing dead or crossing wood after flowering. Mulch annually with leafmould or compost to help retain moisture and protect shallow roots. An excellent feature for smaller gardens and for adding early-season interest.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
