Magnolia Black Tulip

Magnolia Black Tulip

Magnolia 'Black Tulip' is a deciduous small tree or large shrub valued for its large, richly purple, tulip-shaped flowers in early spring, typically opening on bare branches before the leaves. Upright and bushy in habit, it makes a striking specimen for gardens, thriving in full sun to light shade with shelter from cold, drying winds. Plant in a moisture-retentive, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil and avoid shallow chalk. Pruning needs are minimal—remove only dead or crossing wood after flowering. In time, plants commonly reach about 4–6m tall and 2.5–4m wide.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
