Family Apple: 2 varieties

A family apple tree carries two compatible apple cultivars grafted onto a single rootstock, giving reliable cross‑pollination and a good crop from one tree. Malus domestica thrives in full sun in Ireland, in moist but well‑drained, fertile soil, and benefits from a sheltered position during blossom time. Spring flowers are typically white flushed with pink, followed by fruiting that reflects the specific grafted cultivars. Prune in late winter to maintain an open, balanced framework and renew fruiting wood, and thin developing fruit in early summer to improve size and reduce biennial cropping. Water newly planted trees in dry spells and mulch to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
