Cyathea Medullaris 60 litres pot
Cyathea Medullaris 60 litres pot
Cyathea medullaris, commonly known as the black tree fern, is a striking, architectural fern valued for its tall dark trunk and large, arching, evergreen fronds. In Ireland it is best grown in frost‑free conditions such as a greenhouse, conservatory or bright, sheltered courtyard with high humidity. Provide humus‑rich, moist but free‑draining soil and consistent moisture, with filtered light or shade and protection from wind. In very mild, frost‑free locations it may be sited outdoors in a shaded, sheltered spot; otherwise keep as a container specimen that can be moved under cover for winter. Excellent as a focal point for woodland‑style or shaded, architectural planting.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
