CARPINUS BETULUS FASTIGIATA

CARPINUS BETULUS FASTIGIATA

Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata' is a distinctive, upright to broadly oval hornbeam valued for its tight, architectural form and dense, dark green foliage that turns yellow in autumn. In spring it produces pendent catkins, followed by winged fruits later in the season. Tough and reliable, it thrives in a range of soils, including clay and chalk, and copes well with sun or light shade. Excellent as a specimen or for formal avenues and structured planting, it can be lightly pruned to maintain a neat outline and will eventually reach around 12m tall and 8m wide.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
