Allium holl. 'Purple Sensation'

Allium holl. 'Purple Sensation'

Allium holl. Purple Sensation

A much-loved ornamental onion for Irish gardens, producing dense, spherical heads of vivid purple, starry flowers in late spring to early summer on upright stems. Best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, it threads beautifully through mixed borders and looks superb among early perennials and grasses. Leaves often die back around flowering, so underplanting helps to disguise the fading foliage. Excellent for cut flowers and highly attractive to pollinators.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
