Acer palmatum Shishigashira 40-50 CM C6.5

Acer palmatum 'Shishigashira' is a slow-growing, upright Japanese maple prized for its distinctive, tightly crinkled leaves that create a neat, sculptural silhouette. Foliage is green through the growing season, developing rich orange-red autumn colour. It is well suited to small gardens, courtyards and containers, thriving in partial or dappled shade with shelter from cold, drying winds. For best results in Ireland, plant in a moisture-retentive but well-drained, humus-rich soil that is slightly acidic, and avoid shallow or chalky soils; minimal pruning is required, focusing only on the removal of dead or damaged wood.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
