Acer palmatum 'Katsura' is a compact, graceful Japanese maple grown for its striking seasonal foliage and elegant, layered habit. Young leaves open in spring with warm orange to yellow tones edged with soft tints, mature to yellow‑green in summer, and take on glowing orange‑yellow shades in autumn. Best in Ireland in a sheltered spot with dappled/light shade, in moist but well‑drained, humus‑rich soil that is neutral to acidic; avoid very alkaline (chalky) soils and cold, drying winds to prevent scorch. Ideal as a focal specimen in containers or sheltered borders; prune only lightly to remove dead or crossing wood, preferably in late autumn to mid‑winter.
