Acer pal. Ukigumo P23
Acer pal. Ukigumo P23
With its ethereal, cloud-like spring foliage, Acer palmatum 'Ukigumo' is a slow-growing, deciduous Japanese maple prized for irregular green-and-white variegation, sometimes flushed soft pink on young leaves. Best in partial shade and a sheltered spot to protect the delicate foliage from wind and midday sun, it forms a graceful, upright small tree ideal for containers or as a focal point in courtyards and woodland-style plantings. Grow in moist, well-drained, moderately fertile soil that is neutral to acid; avoid chalky soils and waterlogging. Ultimately a compact small tree, typically reaching 2–5m over time.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
