Enkianthus campanulatus
Enkianthus campanulatus
Enkianthus campanulatus is a slow-growing, deciduous, acid-loving shrub valued for its elegant clusters of small, pendent, bell-shaped flowers in late spring to early summer (typically May–June), usually pale cream to soft pink and often delicately red-veined. It develops striking autumn colour, making it an excellent choice for woodland edges and ericaceous borders in Ireland. Grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich, acidic soil and position in sun or light shade; avoid limy/chalky conditions and drying out in summer.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
