Prunus shirotae

Prunus shirotae

Prunus shirotae

Prunus shirotae is a broad, spreading, deciduous Japanese cherry valued for its abundant white spring blossom. In Irish gardens it makes an elegant specimen with a low, wide canopy, flowering reliably in mid to late spring and offering lightly scented blooms. Grow in full sun and in fertile, moist but well-drained soil for the best display. Ultimately a small to medium-sized tree with a broad spread, it is ideal as a standalone feature for lawns or larger borders where its graceful, layered branching can be appreciated.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
