Growing onion:
Although onions can be grown from seeds, they are easier to grow and will be ready faster from sets. These are best planted in Spring, although some varieties can be planted in Autumn and Winter in light soil. Onion prefers a neutral to alkaline soil, with well-rotted matter dug in prior planting (at least 2 weeks before).
Plant the cloves 5 to 10cm apart, with the tip of the bulb showing at the surface.
Harvest when the foliage is starting to yellow.
