Carex Evergold

Carex Evergold

Carex Evergold (Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’) is a compact, evergreen Japanese sedge prized for its graceful, arching tufts of narrow leaves with a bright golden-yellow centre edged in deep green. It brings reliable, year-round colour to edging, containers and groundcover, and suits informal woodland-style schemes. In Irish gardens it does best in partial shade and any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil; it will tolerate sun if the ground does not dry out. Low-maintenance and clump-forming, simply comb out or lightly trim tired foliage in late winter to early spring. Expect neat mounds to around 30cm tall and about 45cm across; spring flowers are small brown spikes and not showy.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
