Betula utilis Doorenbos

Betula utilis 'Doorenbos' is a graceful Himalayan birch prized for its striking, smooth white bark that peels in fine papery layers, creating year-round interest. It forms an elegant, upright tree with fresh green, deciduous foliage that turns yellow in autumn, and bears slender catkins in spring. Well-suited to Irish gardens, it thrives in sun or light shade in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soils, preferring neutral to acidic conditions. Excellent as a specimen or planted in groups for architectural impact, it delivers strong visual structure through all seasons with minimal pruning beyond routine maintenance.
