Daphne odora Aureomarginata

Daphne odora Aureomarginata

Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ is a compact, slow-growing evergreen shrub prized for its powerful winter perfume. Neat, glossy leaves are elegantly edged in gold, and tight clusters of intensely fragrant pink and white flowers appear in late winter to early spring (typically February to March). In Ireland it performs best in a sheltered position in sun or light shade, in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil that is neutral to slightly acidic; avoid waterlogging and chalky soils. Ultimately forms a rounded shrub around 1–1.5m tall and wide; avoid transplanting once established and prune only lightly after flowering. Ideal near doors, paths or patios so the scent can be enjoyed.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
