ALSTROEMERIA sp. Summer Ice

ALSTROEMERIA sp. Summer Ice

Alstroemeria are long-flowering, clump-forming perennials valued for their lily-like blooms and reliability in summer borders and for cutting. Grow in sun or light shade in Ireland, in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Water well in dry spells during the first season, then feed in spring to support flowering. For more blooms, gently pull (rather than cut) spent flowering stems from the base, and remove faded flowers regularly. Taller forms may need discreet support in windy spots. Mulch in late autumn to protect the crown and help plants overwinter well in colder or more exposed gardens.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
